Merchant PrePay™

Merchant PrePay™--Helping Municipalities Help Motorists

Using the incredibly effective toll road programs known as E-ZPass and FAST LANE as models, Merchant PrePay™ allows merchants to prepay for parking meters for their customers or employees.

Here's how Merchant PrePay™ works:

  • The merchant's credit card will be charged a prepaid amount.
  • When the balance dips below ten dollars, an additional agreed-upon amount will be charged.
  • Specific meter numbers are registered to the merchant. The merchant cannot tie up these meters all day. If a motorist is eligible to receive a parking ticket at a Merchant PrePay™ meter, the motorist will not be issued the ticket; instead, the merchant's credit card will be charged for the full-metered amount. Merchants will be allowed up to three meters within the immediate vicinity of his or her office or store.
  • When a Parking Enforcement Officer (PEO) comes to a meter where a car is in violation, the PEO will enter the vehicle's identification number into the TicketWrite™ 2.0 handheld computer.
  • Instead of issuing a parking ticket, the handheld computer will show that the merchant has agreed to pay the metered expense.
  • The PEO will print out acknowledgement of this payment and will put this acknowledgement under the car's windshield.
  • The acknowledgement will say that instead of receiving a parking ticket, the motorist is receiving receipt of the fact that the merchant (the merchant's name will be listed) kindly paid for the parking meter.
  • Merchant PrePay™ is similar to PrePay™.
